LaToya of the BFBC Book Club interviews Marlon Green
LaToya : Okay, the girls and I have been corresponding with you via email for a while now. Finally we can get everything out in the open once and for all. Where in the hell have you been? We miss you.
Marlon: I’ve been learning more about the publishing business from other angles. Basically, I’ve been behind the scenes helping other people.
LaToya: That’s nice of you, lol. But what about your readers?
Marlon: I love my readers. I just got burdened with helping others and doing what you said—being nice to people. Sometimes in the midst of helping others we tend to lose focus.
LaToya: So you took your eyes off the prize because of helping other people? Who were you helping and how?
Marlon: I’ve helped publishers, authors, aspiring authors, models, film producers, and probably people I can’t put a title on. I’ve been editing, ghostwriting, freelance writing, and serving as a consultant.
LaToya: And publishing?
Marlon: And publishing. That’s another story altogether. All of those things had my attention artistically. What little time I had for myself was spent on my other interests, but my focus is sharpening. I’ve taken on entirely too many projects due to my multiple interests. I’m actually in therapy.
LaToya: Are you seriously in therapy or are you cutting up again?
Marlon: I’m learning how to focus on one project at a time and also focusing on doing me.
LaToya: Oh. I thought you were cutting up like you did at our book club. You still are our favorite special guest. You really outdid yourself. That’s why we’re always at your door because we miss you. You need to put out another book so we can have you again.
Marlon: I’m looking forward to that. You all took good care of me.
LaToya: And it’s about time you started taking care of us. We don’t want you dropping off the radar. It’s been almost five years since BUTTER was released.
Marlon: It’s been that long? Damn. I just got a chill through my body, and it was one of those bad chills. The good part is that while releasing novels by other authors, I've learned a lot more about the business. But I understand that publishing books by others is not the same.
LaToya: It’s not. You need to come from around that desk and handle your business.
Marlon: I’m going to leave that alone because coming from you, that statement is a double entendre. Anyway, GET MONEY is ready to launch next spring, and it’s going to really entertain you. I just need you to hold on a little longer. One Ain’t Enough can hold you over for a little while.
LaToya: That’s fine. Now when GET MONEY gets here, it’s not going to take you another five years to drop another novel, is it?
Marlon: That was cold. No, I’m not going to leave you all hanging again. I’m going to drop one every year for at least the next three years. I may even release two books next year.
LaToya: Don’t blow smoke up my you know what.
Marlon: I’m not blowing smoke. I have two novels done and one in the works.
LaToya: Okay, we’re holding you to that. You better keep your focus and handle your business.
Marlon: I will. Just keep loving me.
LaToya: That’s a given.
Marlon: Tell the book club that all hugs are on the house.
LaToya: You are so crazy! And some of us will be looking forward to a hug more than others.
Marlon: Alright, sweetie. I’ll see you online. Thanks again.
LaToya: Thank you for your time.
